PepsiCo Expands India Footprint with High‑Tech Potato Processing Plant

PepsiCo India has opened a USD 81.5 million potato chips manufacturing plant in Banekuchi, Assam — a major milestone for the state’s industrial development. The facility will benefit around 5,000 farmers and create 700 jobs, with women making up most of the workforce. A new 10,000‑ton cold storage has also been built to support year‑round potato supply.

PepsiCo plans to more than double its annual potato requirement by 2030 and will source potatoes directly from local farmers at predetermined prices. The Assam government is backing the initiative with crop insurance, credit programs, and broader industrial investments aimed at reducing youth migration.

Overall, the project strengthens PepsiCo’s manufacturing footprint in India while boosting local agriculture, employment, and economic growth.
